I tried to look up a little history on the original library...you can find the full history free, here. I love reading the story behind things. I've always loved historical stories...especially when given from someones personal point of view. Here are a few excerpts from the history behind the Cambridge Library...
An original picture of the library... I love this! Especially after seeing what the area looks like today it's amazing to imagine it when it was like what you see here in the picture.

One thing I am loving about Boston is all of its history! I feel like each old building should have a story behind it. It's fun to imagine what it was like when these places were first built.
On our walk we saw many of your 'typical' beautiful New England homes!
This yellow house was one of my very favorites...the landscaping was incredible and it looked so welcoming! I told my friend Chelsea I just might want to stay in Boston if I could have a home like this one. It was beautiful!
This home had a plaque on it that said it was built by one of the very first brick layers in Cambridge and built with mortar and brick that was dug from that area.
The library itself is also a pretty amazing sight! They added on to the library I believe in 2009 (maybe it was 2006). Either way, it's huge. I love how they connected the old original building to more of a modern building. There is a playground and everything right on the grounds. We had a great time.
After we got our new library cards and checked out a few books we let the kids play for about 20 minutes on the playground and headed back for home. We decided to take a different route on our way back and walk through Harvard Square.
This was one of the old buildings we saw on our way home. Looking through the glass on the doors was pretty neat. Murals on the walls, and another set of beautiful wooden doors leading into the main entry way of the building. It seemed that it was currently being used as an apartment building, but I loved all it's personality.
We also saw this chapel on the way home. I believe it was a Baptist Church, but can't be sure....
Our last stop before heading home was a very popular Ice cream/yogurt shop called J.P. Licks right in the heart of Harvard Square. The ice cream was really amazing, and the kids loved stopping for a sweet treat after our long walk!
