Happy Anniversary from Afghanistan

To my little Boy,

It was two years ago today that your Mother and I were married for time and all eternity in the House of the Lord—the most special day for our little family. I wish dearly that I could be there to see her beautiful face and celebrate this important occasion, but I have duties elsewhere that I cannot set aside. So it is with all the love that a husband and father can possess that I ask you, my son, to take my place tonight. Please understand the significance of this favor that I ask of you and how fortunate we are to have found enough favor in the Lord’s eyes to be blessed with one of His greatest creations—your Mother. Speaking not only as a father to his son, but also as one fortunate man to another, I ask you to treat her like the little gentleman that you are—because surely, she is the Queen of both our hearts.

Love,

Dad

How MUCH was that?

So I just looked at my Verizon bill. EEK! Mercy, looks like my monthly allowance will be spent on overage charges. Don't get me wrong, most of those minutes are spent talking to Andy, so every last one was worth the 46 cents it cost me...but WOW, I wasn't expecting that. Anyway, sorry about my rant. I didn't intend on writing about my phone bill..but I may have to sell my right arm to pay it. So if you see me with out an appendage next time, you will know why.
Things here have been pretty busy. For the past week plus we have had my niece and nephew staying at my parents house while my sister-in-law is on vacation (and my brother is working). It has been great having there here and we have tried to have as much fun as possible. The weather hasn't exactly been cooperating, but we are making do. One day last week we went running around the river, since the weather was beautiful. The kids had a chance to spend some time outside and also got to feed the ducks. I apologize to Nate and Cami in advance for all the duck crap they will find on the bottom of their children's shoes. I wasn't going to pick it off, so I will let you deal with it.

Hopefully we will be able to make it to the zoo before they leave. Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day! (Lets hope that works).

On to other news. I took Noah in for his 4 month wellness check and was really anxious to see how much he weighed. To be honest it wasn't as much as I thought, but of course he hasn't LOST weight...so we are still moving up on the scale. He came in at 20.4 lbs and 28 inches long! I am not sure where he gets his height from, but I have a feeling he will be taller than both Andy and I by a clear mile. We will see though, things can always change or slow down. He has also been rolling over by himself, which I consider quite an accomplishment since he has quite a mass to push over. Its been pretty sporadic and he still gets a little frustrated while trying, but I imagine it will be a matter of days or weeks before he is doing it consistently. So, to reward Noah (or me) for his new found talent, I decided to get him a bumbo! I have been wanting to get one for a while, but just kept putting it off. Unfortunately we didn't end up keeping it since I pretty much had to maneuver him into it. It seems that most 20lb babies are over 4 months and are usually sitting up on their own. Oh well, we will get one earlier next time! I did however manage to snap a picture of Noah in the bumbo for the split second he enjoyed it. If I thought he could use it for more than a day I would have kept it, since he looks so blasted cute!

Isn't that adorable? Yes, I know. Anyway, I also decided to enlist the talent of my little sister and have her take a candid of Noah and I. Its been a while since we have taken a picture together, so I figured it was about time. Mind you, these are not professional...but turned out pretty good. Good enough to print off and send to Andy. Hopefully he puts them by his bedside and thinks of us often.

Lastly, an update on sleep training. Noah seems to be getting the hang of things, although he still isn't sleeping though the night. His naps are much more structured and he naps so much better during the day. He is down to about 1 feeding at night and one in the early morning (which is so much better than his every two hour feedings). We are getting by, and I know that a full nights sleep will come with time. Thanks for every one's support and advice, it definitely helped!

Noah and I leave for Portland on Wednesday and we are looking forward to seeing Andy's parents and sisters there. I have never been to Oregon before, so this will be a great trip! We will be sure to document it and take lots of pictures! We will be spending two weeks there, so there will be a lot to report. Until then, stay tuned!

PS. I will have an update on Andy soon, just know that he is doing well! He said he would send me some pictures of some camels he saw, so I will be sure to post them. WE LOVE YOU ANDY. Miss you.

Shout out to Whitney, Sleep Training and Andy Update

As I begin this post...my baby boy is asleep (knock on wood) in his crib after crying for about 20 minutes (today marks our first day of sleep training), and my little sister is crashed in her bed as well after her Senior all nighter. It makes me feel extremely old thinking about the fact that Whitney is now 18 and graduated high school. If it weren't for Noah and I, my parents would be empty nester's come September....but they will have to wait a few more months for that.

Since Whitney's life has been a lot more exciting then mine recently...I will post all the exciting things she has been doing. First, on the 29th she celebrated her 18th birthday! Can you believe that this little girl, is now this woman? eek!

Along with celebrating her birthday, Whitney also went to Commencement and graduated high school! She looked so pretty on the night of the dance and her boyfriend Josh (who will be leaving on his mission in August) was kind enough to escort her. What a cute couple!

Our little graduate!

Congrats to Whit, We love you!!

Like it states in my heading...today marks day one of Noah's sleep training! I can't believe how hard it is to listen to my baby boy crying in the next room, but I have full confidence in him (more confidence than I have in myself even) that he will get it down and learn to soothe himself. Its not that I mind rocking him to sleep, and I certainly love to cuddle him; but I don't love the late nights and waking up every two hours. I think mostly it is habit for Noah to wake himself up every two hours...and I really feel that once he learns to self soothe it will either allow him to soothe himself through those moments when he thinks he needs to be fed...or it will allow me to wean him from his night feedings much easier. He has always been such a good baby but I know it will make us both happier to be on a schedule! So I HOPE it works, and if it doesn't we will go back to the drawing board. I just know that both of us are extremely over tired...and hopefully this will help both of us get the sleep we need. Looks like I will be sleeping on the couch for a couple of days. Boy do I wish Andy were here!

Here is Noah in a much happier state than he is in at the current moment. The other night we caught this cute moment on video!

He is soo cute, and we definitely have so much fun with him.

Lastly, a small update on Andy. It has been a few days since I have heard from him. I talked to him Sunday morning and then again for literally about 2 minutes last night. We got cut off and I never heard back. He seems to be doing well. He said that there were four men who were killed by two road side bombs near where his post is; because of the seriousness of those situations they have what they call 'black out' days where no one can call or email until the family members of those who were killed have been properly informed. As I think about the situation that Andy and so many other members of our military are in, I am extremely grateful for their service and their sacrifice. Only those who serve in the military really understand the sacrifice they make, and although I know most Americans appreciate their service...I don't think many fully understand. All I can say is how thankful I am that the Lord is watching over Andy, and keeping him safe. I pray the same for all others who serve along side him.
